Brewers Sweep Twins With A 6-2 Win Sunday

The Milwaukee Brewers continued their stellar play at home as they got a 6-2 win Sunday and a series sweep over the struggling Twins. Milwaukee has used the same formula that has worked for them in the past and that is strong pitching and timely hitting. Chris Narveson who has struggled at times came through with a fine performance. Narveson went 6.2 innings giving up just five hits and two earned runs. Along the way he did strike out seven batters. If the Brewers can get Chris Narveson more consistent the Brewers will be awful tough.

Ryan Braun got a hit to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Yuniesky Betancourt got three hits to help pace a Milwaukee team that has been hitting the ball well at least in the Twins series. Milwaukee's Prince Fielder also added to his RBI total and now stands at 68. Milwaukee is tough at home, but they still need to improve on the road if they want to be considered a real title contender.

Prince Fielder Continues To Stay Hot!

Prince Fielder has been hitting the ball well for the Milwaukee Brewers as this could be the last season he plays for the Brewers. Fielder has super agent Scott Boras representing him, so you know Fielder will get top dollar. The interesting part for Fielder will be what kind of market will there be for him when he becomes a free agent. If he continues to hit the ball the way he has been the market could widen to include other teams as well.

An interesting side note to all of this is the Milwaukee Brewers drafted Scott Boras son in the draft this week. Could that have an impact on the discussions when it comes to a new contract. Only time will tell if that will have any bearing at all. A good move though by the Brewers if it helps I guess. Fielder will command somewhere between 120-150 million dollars, and that is probably too steep for the Brewers.

It will be interesting to see what the Milwaukee Brewers do with Fielder at the end of the season. Will they offer him a good contract or let him walk. If starts to struggle they may trade him, but that seems unlikely as he is playing very well. For the Brewers and their fans it is a wait and see approach with Fielder.

Brewers Bullpen Gives One Away

The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen has been great for most of the season, but last night they let one get away from them. Brewers starter Shaun Marcum deserved a better fate then he got last night. Marcum pitched six innings and gave up no runs and two hits, but threw over 100 pitches. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke decided to go to the bullpen and they could not hold the lead. Marco Estrada came in and it fell apart for the Brewers and they eventually lost 2-1 to the New York Mets.

Prince Fielder went deep for his 15th home run of the season, but the Brewers really did nothing else against former Brewers pitcher Chris Capuano who pitched real well. His only mistake was to Prince Fielder. This is a game the Brewers let get away and it should not have happen, but it did.

Brewers Crush Cubbies 18-1

The Milwaukee Brewers struggled this past weekend against the Houston Astros. In 27 innings the Brewers could only managed 2 runs. Against the Chicago Cubs tonight though it was a different story as the Brewers crushed the Cubbies 18-1. Yovani Gallardo started the game for the Brewers and went six innings allowing just one run and striking out 12 Cubs.

On the offensive side of the game the Brewers pounded out 26 hits against four Cub pitchers. Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, Casey McGehee and Prince Fielder went 16 for 26 with 11 runs scored along with 12 RBI's. The Brewers have a good offensive club and this does not surprise me at all. Gallardo is the only pitcher the Brewers have they can count on these days. It's too bad the Brewers cannot get better outings from other pitchers.

Brewers Need To Look Into Trading Some Guys

So far this season the pitching has actually been worse this year than last year. I think it is time the Milwaukee Brewers need to consider trading some players. Two players who have been talked about in trade talks is Prince Fielder and Corey Hart. Both players could bring in some pitching talent which is what the Milwaukee Brewers need right now.

The Brewers should see what it would take to get Cliff Lee from the Mariners. I would be willing to give up Fielder and Hart to land Lee if he was willing to sign a long term deal with the Brewers. If not than no way I would give both players away. The bottom line is until the Milwaukee Brewers get better pitching they will continue to struggle to win baseball games. The Giants series was a good indication as the Brewers pitchers were battered around all series giving up 15 runs in one game. Of course the Brewers helped in the process with errors as well. Unless the pitching gets better it will be a long second half of the season.

Brewers Finally Find offense In 11-6 Rout Of Dodgers

Brewer fans have been waiting for some offense for awhile and the Brewers bats finally woke up. Prince Fielder and Gregg Zaun homered, while Ryan Braun doubled in a 9 run second inning as the Brewers cruised to a easy 11-6 win over the Dodgers. Brewers hitters pounded out 15 hits with Gregg Zaun leading the way with three hits. The Brewers offense needed a game like this as they have been struggling to hit the ball. It was good to see Prince Fielder hit the ball better as well. It seems he just puts too much pressure on himself to perform at a high level night in and night out.

Pitching has been a problem for the Brewers lately, but they did get a good start from Chris Naverson who was able to go six innings and only give up three earned runs. The bullpen was not bad except for Manny Parra who only went one inning and gave up three runs. That worries me a little, but we will have to see if he continues to pitch that bad. Milwaukee needed this win as they have been struggling and a big win like this can only help the Brewers, Now let's see if they can make it two in a row.

Maybe Trading Prince Fielder Now Is A Good Idea?

Milwaukee Brewer fans have seen there fair share of players leaving Milwaukee and getting little or nothing in return. With a horrible start to the season Milwaukee should consider moving Prince Fielder who can become a free agent soon. He is going to want some big money and the Brewers have not shown the ability to keep people in the fold. The bottom line being in a small market the Brewers just cannot compete with the bigger markets. Fielder will command top dollar and just like C.C Sabathia bolted so will Fielder. You really can't blame him either.

Why would Fielder want to stay on a team that has one of the worse pitching staffs in the National League. He can go to a team that has a chance to win and get paid good for it as well. If he stays in Milwaukee him and Braun will need to knock in 5 runs apiece just to keep the game close. Trading Fielder is not something Brewer fans want to see, but best to get something than nothing at all. I will be shocked if he does not leave as why stay with a ball club that looks to be no better than .500 once again.

What's Going On With The Brewers?

Everyone is asking what is wrong with the Milwaukee Brewers? Simply put they stink on offense, defense, and pitching. When you stink in all three you get beat plain and simple. Take the weekend series in Sand Diego where the Brewers managed to score only two runs in four games against San Diego pitching. Meanwhile Brewer pitching gave up 21 runs in the losses. Everyone wants the answers and actually it's pretty simple. When you get no pitching it makes it tough to win games. Yes, the offense needs to score runs, but when you give up 21 runs you will not win a lot of ballgames.

The Brewers have a Team ERA of 5.09 and unless that comes down a lot the Brewers will not win a lot of games. Milwaukee is batting .268 as a team if you would take Ryan Braun's number out it would be much worse. The one guy who is really hurting the Brewers is Prince Fielder who is batting just .234 with 2 home runs and just a paltry 9 RBI's. Those numbers are horrible from a guy that usually carries the Brewers. Only Ryan Braun, Casey McGehee, and Jim Edmonds have done anything on the offense side of it. Unless the Brewers get going real soon they will be out of the playoff race by the end of May. Real sad real sad.

Brewers Struggling Early

The Milwaukee Brewers spent plenty of money in the off-season getting pitching help. So far the experiment has been a disaster. Doug Davis was brought in and is 0-1 with a 12.27 era. Randy Wolf has pitched decent, but has also struggled as well. The bullpen has struggled a lot as well. The Brewers pitching staff last year had a high ERA and so far this year it is at 5.52. Pretty close to what the Brewerswere last year. What has to be real troubling for Brewers fans are the home runs that the pitchers are giving up. Pitching is what gets you to the playoffs and right now the Brewers are really struggling.

On the offense side of it Ryan Braun, Casey McGehee, and Rickie Weeks have gotten out to fast starts. Prince Fielder is struggling and has just three RBI's and no home runs to go along with 15 strikeouts. Fielder is a guy the Brewers need to get going especially if the pitching is struggling like they are. Some lineup changes will probably be needed if they Brewers want to get things going in the right direction. The Brewers cannot fall to far behind as catching the Cardinals maybe real tough this year.
