Is Rowdy Tellez The Answer At First Base?

 Lately, first base has been an issue for the Brewers. Rowdy Tellez is an option that the Brewers are considering this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers lately have had an issue finding quality first basemen that stay long term. For one reason or another it never seems to work out for them. The Brewers thought Keston Hirua was going to be the answer but he has struggled. One guy the Brewers traded for was Rowdy Tellez from the Toronto Blue Jays. Could Rowdy be the one person the Brewers have needed. Let’s take a closer look at Rowdy Tellez and if he is the guy long term for the Brewers.

Rowdy stands 6–4 and weighs in at 255lbs a big guy and perfect target for throws from the infield. Tellez has very good power with his 11 home runs in 290 at-bats last season. The one thing I like about Tellez is he has been shown to be clutch when needed for the Brewers. He had some huge home runs in the 2021 season. He also is a crowd favorite as well with the fans.

I think Tellez was available to the Brewers as he just hasn’t gotten enough playing time in his career. He needs to start every game and let’s see what he can do. From his stats he seems to be good for 22–30 home runs and 75–90 RBI’s in a full season. If he can do that he will find a home at first base.

The one thing I worry about is his strikeout rate. For me it’s a little high, but he is also a good contact hitter as well. From what I seen last season Rowdy Tellez deserves a shot to be the first basemen everyday.

What Can The Brewers Expect From Jackie Bradley Jr This Season?

  Many people wonder why the Milwaukee Brewers signed Jackie Bradley Jr and I will admit I was one of those people as well. I figured the Brewers were set in the outfield with veterans and young talent, but signing Bradley was interesting, to say the least. Let's look at what Bradley Jr will bring to the Milwaukee Brewers this coming season.

Based on his Major League averages were looking at around 120 hits, 18 home runs, and 70 RBI's for a season. His average of .239 will not wow you by any stretch of the imagination that's for sure. So what does Bradley Jr bring is it's just average numbers by MLB standards? It's simple he brings defense and a lot of it. With the outfielders, the Brewers got he will help cover even more ground in the outfield. Bradley Jr will be able to help you offensively, but he is a gold glove outfielder.

Milwaukee didn't sign Bradley Jr for his offense he was signed for his defense. The Brewers were probably thinking they didn't want what happened to them last year when they lost Lorenzo Cain to Covid. They are covering there bases by having an adequate supply of outfielders this season. Bradley is a great addition and the Brewers should be applauded for getting another great outfielder to add to the mix.

Milwaukee Brewers Following Same Basic Plan Like Last Season

Last season the Milwaukee Brewers made the playoffs which was something I did not think would happen. If you just look at the hitting stats you might wonder how they won ball games. The offense was horrible and probably one of the worst in the Major Leagues last season. The one thing about the Milwaukee Brewers is they are following the same plan as last season. Spend little sign a lot of guys and invite them to spring training. Now, this a system that we may see from the Brewers for a good amount of time in the future. With limited money available Milwaukee has to cut as many corners as possible.

This season Miller Park has a new name it is now called American Family Field which is a little different but I guess just like anything else we have to embrace change. 

This season should be interesting especially if we get to see 162 games. We will know much better if this approach to building a team will really work. In a shortened season you really do not know what your getting. By signing these guys that are looking for second chances you never know what you will get. Maybe you will hit on a couple. Manager Craig Counsell has done a great job for the Brewers and that should not change this season.

Not to much longer and we will get to see what the Brewers have as a team. I personally am looking forward to this season and see how it plays out. Hopefully, another playoff spot is ahead for us Brewers fans and a deep run in the playoffs. At this time of the year everyone is optimistic and so are Brewers fans.

Brewers Sweep Twins With A 6-2 Win Sunday

The Milwaukee Brewers continued their stellar play at home as they got a 6-2 win Sunday and a series sweep over the struggling Twins. Milwaukee has used the same formula that has worked for them in the past and that is strong pitching and timely hitting. Chris Narveson who has struggled at times came through with a fine performance. Narveson went 6.2 innings giving up just five hits and two earned runs. Along the way he did strike out seven batters. If the Brewers can get Chris Narveson more consistent the Brewers will be awful tough.

Ryan Braun got a hit to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Yuniesky Betancourt got three hits to help pace a Milwaukee team that has been hitting the ball well at least in the Twins series. Milwaukee's Prince Fielder also added to his RBI total and now stands at 68. Milwaukee is tough at home, but they still need to improve on the road if they want to be considered a real title contender.

Brewers Crush Twins 11-1

The last few weeks the Milwaukee Brewers have been hot and cold, but it looks like they are on another hot streak. Milwaukee got four home runs and Yovani Gallardo allowed only one run as the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Minnesota Twins by a 11-1 score. Besides Fielder going deep for his 21st home run Carlos Gomez, Yuniesky Betancourt, and Corey Hart  also went deep as the Brewers won their sixth straight over Minnesota after a 3-7 slide coming into the series. 


Right now when the Milwaukee Brewers are playing this way they are a tough team to deal with. They have good pitching, hitting, and fielding, but there biggest problem is being more consistent. Until that happens they are a club that will have hot and cold streaks. It is a long season, but right now the Brewers look like they may be in it too the end. This is something Brewers fans would love to see. 

Prince Fielder Continues To Stay Hot!

Prince Fielder has been hitting the ball well for the Milwaukee Brewers as this could be the last season he plays for the Brewers. Fielder has super agent Scott Boras representing him, so you know Fielder will get top dollar. The interesting part for Fielder will be what kind of market will there be for him when he becomes a free agent. If he continues to hit the ball the way he has been the market could widen to include other teams as well.

An interesting side note to all of this is the Milwaukee Brewers drafted Scott Boras son in the draft this week. Could that have an impact on the discussions when it comes to a new contract. Only time will tell if that will have any bearing at all. A good move though by the Brewers if it helps I guess. Fielder will command somewhere between 120-150 million dollars, and that is probably too steep for the Brewers.

It will be interesting to see what the Milwaukee Brewers do with Fielder at the end of the season. Will they offer him a good contract or let him walk. If starts to struggle they may trade him, but that seems unlikely as he is playing very well. For the Brewers and their fans it is a wait and see approach with Fielder.

Brewers Bullpen Gives One Away

The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen has been great for most of the season, but last night they let one get away from them. Brewers starter Shaun Marcum deserved a better fate then he got last night. Marcum pitched six innings and gave up no runs and two hits, but threw over 100 pitches. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke decided to go to the bullpen and they could not hold the lead. Marco Estrada came in and it fell apart for the Brewers and they eventually lost 2-1 to the New York Mets.

Prince Fielder went deep for his 15th home run of the season, but the Brewers really did nothing else against former Brewers pitcher Chris Capuano who pitched real well. His only mistake was to Prince Fielder. This is a game the Brewers let get away and it should not have happen, but it did.

Tonight the Brewers will send Randy Wolf to the mound and try to get back on track.
